My Husband and I go to church with the Russell Family. I am also blessed to work with both of them. When they approached me about taking pictures of them and their Grandchildren, I was so excited. They wanted to surprise their son and daughter in law with pictures of their children with Grandma and Grandpa!

That spirit is what photography is all about. Capturing memories and cherishing them.

Watching children grow, and getting to document their lives is something very special as a photographer. When they are your own children it's even more special. I've had these photos sitting on my computer for a long time and just now getting around to editing them and showing them.

I love styling shoots, being inspired and coming up with cute ideas that show children's personalities. The inspiration for this came from a picture of a hot air balloon I saw on Pinterest.

Arizona Women's Fall Retreat {Event Photography Prescott, AZ.}

Back in September I was able to travel for the weekend to Northern Arizona for the annual Women's Retreat with the Assemblies of God. Women coming together learning and growing with God, and supporting one another.

Kay Burnett was the speaker for the weekend, she is also the Director of the Women's Department for the state of Arizona.

I was privileged to capture such a life changing event that weekend. Thank you for letting me be apart.

The Limited Grand Opening Event {Event Photographer, Phoenix, AZ.}

I was invited to be apart of the Grand Opening event for The Limited here at the Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale, Arizona. In conjunction with the event they were promoting a local women's shelter for domestic abuse victims. A portion of the proceeds from the Grand Opening event would go to this local organization.

I love when businesses use their platform for good. To make a change, to impact others and make the world better. I was able to capture some great photos from the event.

Inspired by this post from Drewb, got me thinking this week about all the wonderful photographers there are out there. One of the challenges about being a photographer myself is that I can't easily shoot my own family. Lucky for me, there's a wide range of photographers who's work I greatly admire. I joke with my Husband that we're going to start taking family vacations based on the cities where photographers I admire live, just so they can shoot our family photos.

He thinks I am joking. But, little does he really know how serious I am. We're starting next year in 2012.

I got to cross one off my list this past February when we had our family photos and Ava's 1 year photos taken by Carrie Fay here in Arizona.

iheartfaces weekly challenge: best face of summer 2011

This week's challenge is to pick your best faces of summer! I took a lot of pictures this summer, but a few stand out most to me. This week, I wanted to submit a picture of one of my favorites of summer. This one, from my session with the Papia family was a fave.

I have a little girl, and so it's always so fun seeing how boys are. Little Jimmy is full of wonder! He's curious, always moving, into sticks and other things all boy. I also loved seeing my friend in action as a mother to a young boy.

Jennie & Caleb Expecting {Northern Arizona Maternity Photographer}

Jennie and Caleb are one of the sweetest couples. They will be welcoming little Miss Ella at the end of October! It's so fun to see couples so excited for their baby to arrive, and excited for impending parenthood. These two couldn't be more excited!

I joined them last weekend in Northern Arizona for this shoot. They were troopers and walked through a forest with me for their session. My favorite sessions are those when families and couples feel so comfortable and are themselves. It truly comes through in their photographs.

What to Wear to a Photoshoot: Fall 2011

Fall season is already upon us! I love Fall, it's my fave season. There's just something about boots, scarves, crisp weather and a good Pumpkin Spice Latte that makes me very happy. Unfortunately since moving to Arizona we don't get much of a Fall here in Phoenix. We do love driving up North for some cooler weather during these months.

For Fall 2011, I really wanted to put together some outfits that go beyond just the basic fall colors of organges and browns and mix in some deep purples and greens! Since I dress my family in affordable duds I really like to choose outfits that are in a reasonable price range for my clients.

I don't like to matchy match outfits, but coordinate instead.

Iheartfaces is a great photography website filled with all sorts of tutorials, advice, forums and weekly photography challenges. They also interview some of the most amazing photographers in the business. A place to learn and grow in your passion.

This weeks challenge: beautiful eyes.

I choose to enter this photo of Ava. Taken an six months of age, during her sixth month photo shoot. One of the things I love about this photo is that even though you can't see her whole face because she's chewing on the necklaces, but her eyes tell the story.

Through her eyes you can see she's smiling, she's happy and so beautiful! Tyra Banks calls it the "smize" and I couldn't agree more.

She's feisty and opinionated. He's calm and his fingers are like butter on guitar strings.

Together they are beautiful and in love.

She just so happens to be my adorable cousin. They just happen to be family.

Meet Kory and Melissa, they haven't had pictures together since their wedding day almost five years ago. And, well we had to fix that.

This session came to life with their fun loving personalities, a rustic setting complete with my Grandfather's 1931 Ford Model A truck.

What I like to call Vintage Glam! The pictures speak for themselves, take a look.

I love when couples are so in love, so comfortable with each other that it just shines through in their photographs. I love that you get to re live that emotion over and over again when you look at your pictures.

To say that this family is special to me would be an understatement. Meet Jessie and her sweet family; her husband Jimmy and their son Jimmy. They are dear friends of my husband and I, and their son is going to marry our daughter "one day."

I was so excited to get to spend last weekend with them in their new home and get to take some time to shoot their family. I took their engagement pictures almost three years ago, and it's always so awesome to be included in some of their most treasured times now as a family. They are a beautiful family to photograph together, and their son is so sweet.

I even got to share in some exciting news, but I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Have I ever told you that I am really good at keeping a secret? Well, I'm like Fort Knox! Ava's First Birthday Party {Event Photography, Glendale, AZ.}

Event photography is something that I love doing, I love being able to capture an event for families. Unlike family photos you don't take those everyday, but important events happen all the time in real life. We plan for them, and do everything to make them special we should have the photographs to remember them by. As most parents know usually you are behind the camera at your events, or sometimes we're lucky enough to have a friend or relative capture a few good shots for us.

My goal in event photography is to capture the memories you would want, the ones that will make you smile and remember that time in life. I want you to celebrate, and I'll do the rest.

Yesterday we had Ava's first birthday party here at our home pool side. We couldn't have asked for a better day, and for better family and friends to share it with. We celebrated with lunch, cake and gifts. Our baby girl has been taking steps all this week, she hasn't quite taken off but it was so cute to see her in her little birthday tutu taking small steps. She devoured her smash cake, and eventually went into a sugar induced nap.

The whole day was absolutely perfect. I still can't believe she's one, it's like over night she grew up and is now big. We are so blessed by her and love her so much.

Shawn & Jordan {Engagement Photographer, State Center, IA.}

You might remember Shawn from his senior session a couple years ago; here, here and here. Shawn is also my little brother, and now he's engaged! Eeek! Can I really have one brother that is already married and now the other is engaged? Well, it's true he's grown up and is engaged to a wonderful girl named Jordan.

While I was home last weekend I was able to shoot their engagement pictures. I was dreaming of a wintry snow filled photo shoot but was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by 72 degree temps when we flew in that day. It quickly went away and the next day it was a mere 32 degrees. So my dream of a fire and hot cocoa soon dissolved, but I've been wanting to shoot in the downtown alley ways of my small hometown for a while now so off we went. And, we hit up one of my favorite churches to snap some lovey shots.

I love shooting my family. It's one of the best things about being a photographer. To provide them with last memories and freeze moments in time. It's why I fell in love with photography, and it's so special to be able to do that for the people I love most.

Welcome to the family Jordan, we're glad to have you! We're crazy, but there's a lot of love goin' around in this family!

Ava: Ten Month Photo Shoot {Children's Photographer, Glendale, AZ.}

I broke my own little rules a little bit, Ava is now ten months old and usually I like to take photos at the nine month stage before the 1 year photos but 9 months got away from me a bit and before I knew it she was already turning ten months old.

It didn't stop there, I took these pictures and then proceeded to let them sit on my computer for quite sometime now. So, here we are better late than never showing you her ten month photos. Here's a little sneak peek, I'll try to post the rest later today after I take some photos of my Valentines!

It's always interesting shooting children, especially your own. She was more interested in the grass and leaf on the ground than me. Lucky for me Hubby was near by to help distract/entertain her while I snapped away.

Best Of {2010}

2010 was quite a year for my personally I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl this past Spring and she's been the focus of our lives the most in 2010. Having my first child and becoming a family has given me a new love and appreciation for children and family photography.

This past year for me what about taking a break, focusing on my family and becoming a new Mom. Initially I had planned to go full force but once I started I knew I needed to take the time and I knew I couldn't re build a business after our move to Arizona and figure out first time motherhood all at the same time. So this was an intentional break, and a well deserved one.

Besides taking pictures of my sweet girl, and having the best time doing so I also had the privilege to shoot The White Family this past year, a beautiful family through and through. You can see more of their shoot here.

I'm excited to see what 2011 has in store! I'm excited to get back out there and do what I love most and meet new families and people and give them the best experience with their shoots as I possibly can. Looking forward I'm excited about all the creative ideas floating in my head and can't wait to see them come to life.

Ava: 6 Month Photo Shoot {Children's Photographer, Glendale, AZ.}

Six months has gone by so fast, she's actually 7 months now. But, I'm just now getting her photos up from this photo shoot. We had a lot more fun this time, she's sitting up and moving around and has a ton more personality now at this age than she did at 3 months.

It made for a very fun photo shoot! Her head pieces are from Banner Boutique here in Gilbert, AZ. The pearls are from my closet and the tutu you can get from here.

What to Wear to A Photo Shoot: Fall Edition

I get a lot of questions from my clients on "what to wear" to their shoots! This is the season when families are taking the time to take pictures for their Christmas cards, and updating the family photo on the mantle.

I thought I'd so a series of posts concerning "what to wear" to your shoot, giving some tips & ideas for making you feel comfortable during your next family shoot. Gone are the days of matchy-matchy families, you know what I'm talking about khaki pants and white tops. Save that for Olan Mills. If you show up like that to your shoot I may or may not take your pictures. ;)

Here's a couple tips for picking out what to wear to your next shoot:

1. Make sure it's something you're comfortable in. If you're not, I can tell and it will come out in your photographs.

2. Layer, layer, layer! This adds depth to your photos and gives you the option of adding or taking away pieces to get different looks.

3. Accessorize! You can never go wrong with jewelry, hats, scarves, etc.

4. Pick colors that are similar to those in your home. Not sure what color palette to go with? Pick colors that you already have in your home decor for example if you decorate with a lot of reds and creams go that route. This way when you hang your pictures on the wall they will already go with your decor and not look crazy out of place in your home.

The White Family {Family Photographer, Glendale, AZ.}

This afternoon while my Hubby watched our baby girl, I snuck off for the afternoon to spend it shooting an amazing family; The White Family.

Jason and Crystal go to our church, they have three amazing little ones. They are truly one of the sweetest families I've ever known.

Anthony is the oldest, he's got a gentle spirit about him and loves to smile.

Sam is the middle child, full of energy and spunk!

Matthew is the newborn.

His brothers love him, nuff said!

We spent the afternoon together, playing, laughing and chatting in the park. You all are truly a loving and wonderful family it was my honor to get to capture this moment in time for your little family.

A little something personal on the blog today, my sweet little girl is quickly turning 3 months soon. I stole away a few hours this past weekend to shoot her Three Month Photos.

A couple days ago I showed you some graphics I'd been working on for my church, well today I wanna show you what I've been working on for my personal family blog called Worley House. If you aren't a reader yet, I invite you to jump on over and get the scoop on what happens in my life when I'm not working behind a camera.

The first is a "Worley House" stamp I made. I wanted a symbol for our home, and this is what I came up with: I've used this on stationary, our blog button, and for return address labels. It's kinda like my version of a crest.

These next few are graphics that I made for my "weekly" features on Worley House. I wanted something at the top of each of these posts, something for my readers to recognize easily and come to associate with these weekly features on the blog. Enjoy!

Some Updates

I'm busy finishing up edits & albums for clients before taking maternity leave. I will be taking a limited number of shoots for the month of February, before my maternity leave. Sam & Jessie {Wedding Photographer, Ames, IA.}

This past weekend was a special weekend for me and my family, my little brother (who isn't so little anymore) got married!

I've decided that winter weddings are the most romantic setting now to get married in. There's just something about the snow and ice and beauty of it that makes it so romantic. Sam & Jessie were married on a beautiful winter day in Iowa. It was 32 degrees outside and perfect. Just the right amount of frost dusted the trees that morning to make it perfect!

I love weddings, and especially ones for people I love. It's hard to believe that my little brother is married and I have a new Sister. But, I'm so glad I do!

I was not the main shooter at this wedding, it was nice to sit back and enjoy this moment with my family. But, if you know me you know that a camera is never to far away. So here's a little preview of the photos I did snap while taking in the amazing day with my family!

Custom Christmas Card: Childs Family

Today while processing orders and ordering props for some newborn sessions I had some time to do some mock ups for my Parents' Christmas card. I made a few mock ups for my Mom to choose over, we'll see which one she chooses!

Today, I'm sitting here making Christmas cards for clients and family thinking about all the snow my friends and family are enjoying in Minnesota & Iowa! I hate to say it but it's about 55 degrees here today!

Over Labor Day weekend we traveled to Palm Springs, CA for a weekend trip of shopping, eating and being with friends. This city oozes Old Hollywood glamour, with lots of fun shops and tons of places to eat. We even took the tram up 8,000 ft to eat dinner one night at the top of a mountain. In all my time living in California I'd never been to Palm Springs but now that I've experienced it I'm sure we'll be back.

We stayed on an amazing Marriott property with a beautiful golf coarse attached. Enjoy!

Duluth, Minnesota is a treasure in Northern Minnesota. Right up by the Great Lakes, it's a tourist town to people in the summertime but to everyone else it's home. Right on the water this city boasts with great eats, tons of shopping and water sport fun!

My Husband and I took a trip here right before we moved and spent our Second wedding Anniversary here. In 6+ years of living in Minnesota neither of us had been there before, we had a great weekend.

There's BIG news for AW Photography! My husband and I have relocated to beautiful and sunny Arizona!

We've been here a little less than a week, and are settling into our new place and surroundings.

This move doesn't change anything about the business other than the location, I still will be taking pictures where ever we are.

I want to say a BIG thanks to all my clients in MN & IA who helped get my business off the ground almost two years ago. I've had so much fun getting to know all of you and spend time with you and your families.

Morgan & Isaac {Wedding Photographer, Marshalltown, IA.}

The Bride was calm as I walked into the room, smiling and excited for the day! As bridesmaids we're getting ready I took a walk through of the church and caught a glimpse of the vibrant colors that were chosen for the wedding; hot pink and orange! A great summer palate, already I could tell this was going to be a fun day. Morgan was one of the calmest brides I've seen, it was a pleasure to begin shooting. Every detail was planned out and perfect, from the hot pink flowers in the bridesmaids hair to the coordinating colors at the reception! A great start to a beautiful day! There ceremony was held as St. Henry's Catholic Church in Marshalltown, IA. The reception was held at Lincoln Valley Golf Coarse in State Center, IA. They had the most beautiful reception, it's the best I've ever seen Lincoln Valley decorated!

Congrats Morgan & Isaac! Thank you for letting me share your day with you! Have a wonderful time together on your honeymoon in the Dominican Republic!

This photo was taken at Kyle & Melissa's wedding last May. I love this shot, as they make their way to the getaway car

you can see the excitement on their faces. There's two moments at weddings that I love photographing. One, is the look on the Groom's face as he sees his Bride walk down the aisle. And the other is the look of the couple as they leave their reception and start their new lives together. It's more than just an expression, more than just being happy. It's that feeling that you have as you know you're about to embark on the greatest adventure of your life with your new spouse that makes this photo so great! That's why I love this shot!

Sam & Jessie {Engagement Photographer, State Center, IA.}

They met in high school, fell in love, and this adorable couple just happens to be my little brother and his fiance' Jessie. They got engaged on Valentine's Day this year, in the most cute way. They went out for dinner in typical Valentine's Day fashion. After dinner, they headed out to the Lake District outside the restaurant, now you might be thinking "Who wants to walk around during February in Iowa?" If you live there, you know it's cold around that time. Well, there was a purpose to that plan. Sam led Jessie around a walking bridge where he'd carefully hung a sign that read, "Jessie, will you marry me? -Sam" He got down on one knee and proposed. The couple is planning a July 10, 2010 wedding in Ames, IA.

I'm so excited for their BIG day! Sam will leave for Airforce Tech School in just a few days, and won't return until November of this year. We wanted to get their engagement session done before he left.

The morning of the session I prayed against the rain, we wanted to do the session where they got engaged but, due to the rain that morning it didn't happen. So plan B, was my parent's farm which is always a fun back drop. When Sam returns from training we'll finish them up at the original location, for now here's your sneak peak; thanks for letting me be apart of your day!

You heard about my desire to own a Shootsac one day, I blogged about it and obsessed over it for months. Problem is, they can be very pricey and at this point I'm not ready to invest that right now. So, I looked and looked, and searched the Internet until I came upon Tracy Joy Bags. These bags are a little more affordable, they come in customizable colors, and you and coordinate your flaps to your personality! Plus, after much investigation I found a sweet deal! To my dismay she's going out of business and she's got everything on sale!! Of coarse, I headed right over there to get mine. I'm pretty sure this is going to change the way I shoot! (with my camera ;) Mine is being shipped as we speak, and it's a cute brown color with a rockin' cover to boot! I'm excited!

For the past 6 years my Parents have called this home, the land and everything around it. Over the past six years it has become one of my favorite places to take photographs of. I've used it for many shoots, and taken lots of photos of their land and it's surroundings. It's been a practice field for me to expand my work, and try new things. They are now selling their home, and the land during a time of transition. While I was home I captured these photos, I want to make them a framed photo collage of a few pictures to remember their memories, and this home, in their new home one day will hang pictures from an amazing time in life. My little niece Jocelynn turned 6 years old this month on April 10th! I can't believe it's been six years since she came into our lives. Last weekend I had the chance to shoot pictures for Encore Dance Academy in Lakeville, MN. The girls were all so excited to have their pictures taken, and so easy to work with. We had a great morning together. Brings me back to the days of my own dancing, I loved every minute of getting to dance. (putting on cute tights, and beautiful ballet shoes didn't help either) Here's a few of my favorites from the day: Enjoy!
There's something beautiful about the feet, the pointed toe, the tiny dancer behind it. So, this was more than just a *sneak peak* but I just couldn't resist all these imgages, there are tons more I'd love to post! It was an honor to be asked to shoot these girls, I had a lot of fun!

I've been wanting to get some new Bio photos taken for my website for a few weeks now. It's finally nice here in MN, and today we ventured out and got some shots. My wonderful friend, and great photog Jessie Papia took some shots of me today. Thank you Jessie for doing this, and taking such fab pics! At around 10 am this morning, Bentley started barking like a crazy protective pup that he is...at Mr. Mailman! I however, was excited for him! I love getting mail, I love going to by mailbox and getting a awesome letter (like people used to write), and card, a glossy magazine or two, and even the bills! But today, it meant that my second lens had arrived! Yipee!! Today, I received my 75-300mm 4-5.6 lens! All shiny and new! I got it out of the box and hooked it up to my Rebel and thought, "boy, this thing is heavy." None the less I was playing already like a girl who just got a new toy!

What do I love about this lens?
The great thing about this lens is that it allows you to take close shots from far away. It's a must have lens when shooting "first look" moments at weddings. It'll allow you to get close to the Bride & Groom without actually being next to them. It allows you to catch those moments that may otherwise be unseen.

It's here! My sweet lens came in the mail today. I've been anticipating it's arrival for a couple days, and today it's here! Thank you Mr. Mailman, I can stop stocking you now (well, at least for now till my other new lens gets here.) It's the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens, which probably means nothing to most of you...but to me it means magic! Hubby likes to call it "my money making" lens.

The C Family is dear to me, because it's my own! Two weekends ago we got together in Iowa for a weekend trip to the cabin. It was a ton of fun. In the weeks prior to planning, I realized that we never got a picture of all of us at Christmas time. Since Christmas we've added to fiances to the crew. I decided we couldn't let an opportunity like this pass us by. We needed to get that shot! And thanks, to self timers I got to be in the photo as well.

I've gotten a few questions about the website I use, so here's my take on websites.

Our 100th Post!

Wedding Albums

I've gotten a lot of questions about my wedding albums lately, and I've decided to post a few pics of what they look like for all to see. Hope this give you a little glimpse of what working with me brings, for those of you that haven't seen my work, or are potential clients of mine. :)

Wedding Albums

They are hard cover, bound leather in your choice of either white or black. The size is 8.5 x 11 with 20 pages of photo goodness!

Parent Albums
Are the smaller of the two albums with a size of 8x8. They are hard cover and bound, and can either be leather to match your wedding album, or can be done hi gloss, hard cover with a picture on the cover, and wording on the binding for more personalization. Yours to choose. They are also 20 pages of photo goodness.

It's official, Andrea Worley Photography is now on Youtube.com! We now have our own "channel", I will be posting many of my Animoto.com videos that I've been making. I'm super excited to start advertising this way, and showing all my clients and those potential clients that there's more than just plain old photographs these days!

I will be adding the option of making 10-15 minute videos out of your photo sessions, set to your choice of song in many of my packages. These are great additions to wedding packages as well.

My new favorite little tool is Animoto.com, I was introduced to this by another photog friend and since last week I've been playing around like mad! It's a great little tool, that is going to allow me to be more creative and offer something new and fresh to all my clients. I've been playing around a little tonight and made a video for my brother and his new fiance, Jess. You can see it in a previous post. Here's the promo video I made for the 2010 Miss Twin Cities & Miss Capital City Pageants that will take place on Oct. 24th, 2009! Let me know what you think. I can't wait to start using this for all my special clients!

Sam + Jessie: Save the Date

My brother is getting married! I am going to be taking their engagements photos very soon, once it warms up a bit here. They got engaged in a beautiful place, and we're going to head back and take a few shots. More to come on this in the next few weeks. Stay tuned! This weekend I took a few shots of my friend Eunice, she's almost 8 months preggo and having her first baby in April. This baby girl doesn't have a name yet, or at least they are telling yet...so we'll call her Annie for now! I love taking these kinds of pictures, such an exciting time in life! I can't wait for this bundle to arrive!

The Sunken Garden

I found a hidden treasure this past weekend; The Sunken Garden at the Como Zoo & Conservatory in St. Paul, MN. What a beautiful place! It is now my newest recommendation to Brides getting married, it's a magical spot surrounded by beautiful flowers and sun! Here, you can get married, or just even have your pictures taken here.
